Fireplace nightmare and painter woes - Day 90

So... Our non-Wayne homes fireplace installer finally showed up. He wasn't happy. Back when the framers first framed the fireplace, they framed it with 2x4 construction. We paid (and got in writing) that it was to be framed in 2x6 construction. BIG mistake. BIG correction. This is an old photo our neighbors sent of the 2x4 fireplace "oops" going into the dumpster:
Then the WH framers re-built the fireplace in 2x6 construction. The problem? The base of the fireplace (on our home's plywood floor) was still built small for a 2x4 section. This didn't allow enough room for the unit. This did not make anyone happy.

Another problem. Wayne homes closed off the entire fireplace so the installer could not put the pipe in.  This meant my husband had to take a half day off of work to come fix this stupid thing with his own tools on his own time. This did not make anyone happy.

My husband is going to post about his thoughts with the way our "custom" items were handled. Keep an eye out, so hopefully we can help YOU be proactive when you are writing up your contract with Wayne Homes. This is our biggest area of concern, as there is an incredible amount of legal speak written in our contract that makes WH "not liable" for a laundry list of events.

Another problem. Our drywaller finishers were here about four hours. They have only taped & mudded the areas they can reach by hand and they are crazy messy. I am not sure where they are from because they are not friendly (even when we offered to buy their lunch from a local restaurant).
The mess:
Yet we are so concerned about the humidity running between 80 and 85%? Clearly this is not helping. And it seems like a lot of extra labor to clean these tools for every four hour work day these guys show up or don't show up for....

Lovely. :)

We talked to the painter today and holy cow were we floored. We would like about 3 colors and the ceiling painted because WH doesn't paint the ceiling (but they do stomp it).  We want the ceiling painted because the stomp-knock yellows. Also, we will need some crazy scaffolding to paint our ceiling and I don't think it will be fun to do after we have carpet and flooring installed.

I could go buy a used car for what we would pay for painting "direct from the painter". It is tempting to just go with WH included paint and do the rest ourselves... We are pushing for 4K. No typo. We are investigating out options at the moment and hoping we can find a better alternative to get what we want.

Until tomorrow.. Hopefully it will be more positive!
