In the bathroom, they ordered the wrong side splashes and the wrong end caps. Again.
We are missing our third column on our front porch and the deadbolt on our basement. Hopefully the carpenters will take care of this tomorrow.
The windows and garage door panel are to be in next week. We are really tired of hearing about how Anderson Silverline's service is "so poor". Our windows have been broken SINCE NOVEMBER 12TH and they "haven't come in yet." Really? If their service is so poor, why would Wayne Homes stand behind them and sell them? One would think poor customer service would be a driving factor in change. Maybe a move to Anderson 200s like their competitors next door should be considered because this so-called "poor service" ends up reflecting poorly on Wayne Homes' reputation. Frankly, it's ridiculous. The current scenario we are in was my husband's biggest concern when dealing with our bank and releasing draws - we are looking at a near-finished house, high utility bills, and still facing broken windows and a list of "little issues" that need addressed.
In other news, the cleaning lady is supposed to be here Friday or Saturday. That's exciting! The field manager would like to close Tuesday, but given that all if the items won't be done until Wednesday, we will possibly close then. Who knows, though...it feels as if the last 45 days have been a guessing game that have taken forever.
I'm stressed out and it's not even my house. I can't imagine how stressful this is on you. It makes me scared to start this process soon. Do you have regrets?
ReplyDeleteI think with any builder, you will have issues that mimic these to an extent...hopefully not to THIS extent, however. It is our hope that we never regret building our home with Wayne Homes, but in the heat of the moment it is very much an emotional roller coaster. I have to say please remember we live ON SITE right next to our home that's being built, so we see absolutely everything every single day. That's probably not typical, neither is our stress/emotions that go with it however raw it may be.
ReplyDeleteOn that note, trying to plan our move has been impossible, and knowing what to expect has been the same. If the crews show up, the work is good. If they would have told us February when they dug in September, we would be fine with that. We just don't deal with people/subcontractors passing the buck or feeding us a line and telling us what we want to hear very well. Our windows are always "supposed to be in next week" as were several other big items on our list. This is an area Wayne Homes could really improve on when it comes to customer satisfaction because as a SECOND GENERATION BUILDER with Wayne Homes, I'm not sure you could find two people that want to say great things about them more than my husband and myself. I think if and when we get the keys and are moved in and settled, we will be able to write more objectively. In the moment, though, we are disappointed in the communication, revolving dates, and follow through, but not with our home. Our home is the focus.
We will also be living right next to where we are going to build. We will be watching every.single.thing they do and don't do. From reading your frustrations this past month, I hope my husband and I can survive this journey without being at each other's throats. Putting all the delays and frustrations aside, your home is turning out beautifully. I really hope you finally get to close next week.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jodi. We hope to close, too! Just add an extra month or two to your projected date and don't allow yourself to think otherwise...so if you're in before then, you will be surprised! My husband and I both believe the end will justify the means when we are through. It is our "Forever Home", and if it takes an extra month and a half or so to ensure we don't have issues or problems in the future, it is worth it. Our "Back pocket builder" who will remain nameless built a house down the road from us. They dug a month after, closed January 17th, and watching their progress made us very jealous...however, having been through a detailed estimate from them, these people probably paid more, have a less custom home, and I guarantee did not get the customer service in the beginning of the building process that was given to us by our New Home Consultant. Once we are in and settled, I think we can look at the process more objectively. If we close next week, they will have taken 21 weeks to build our home, which is just average. Several weeks we sat with nothing done, and several weeks we had some insane weather. In several weeks, this will all be over and we will be happy to be in our home. Then it will be your turn! What model are you building?
ReplyDeleteWe would love to start building by summer, but getting the land in our name is becoming such a long, long process. We plan on building the Hartford II with the 3rd car garage, corner stone fireplace, and a few other customizations. This house will be our "Forever Home" as well. I'll be sure to go into all this expecting it to go longer than their 110 day goal. I don't think I have read a single blog where they were in by 110 days. I'll just be happy to get the ball rolling a bit faster.
