The final days are near!

This weekend, we are moving our appliances and office furniture. The drywaller may be here to work on a few bad seams, but they also may come Monday. The cleaning lady won't be here until Monday or Tuesday, the carpenters will be here on Monday to finally install the third porch column along with the painters to finish some odds and ends (one being repainting the entire great room wall due to the bad seam...ouch).

The NEW busted island counter top won't be here until February 12th, but we aren't going to wait nearly two weeks to move in because of that.

We will most likely close on Wednesday after they fix the broken transom window in the main bathroom.

We are so excited to enjoy what we have spent the last several years planning. :)

Painters and plumbers

The painters and plumbers came today, so we have a beautiful sink, additional black doors, and a great faucet. We don't have our porch column yet because the carpenters no-showed again.

Our window pane in the master bathroom was replaced and our slider lock in the sunroom now works. The slider still needs leveled and the main bathroom transom window is still broken. It won't be in until 2/5.

As of right now, cleaning lady will be here Saturday or Sunday, carpenters Monday, and painters Monday or Tuesday.

We were given the "ok" to get furniture delivered last week as of Thursday this week, assuming things would be done. We aren't rescheduling any more deliveries, so we will have our office furniture this weekend and couch & love seat on Tuesday. Even though we really wanted keys today, knowing we are so.darn.close, we will get through the next week and appreciate it even more when we can finally move over next weekend.

Our kids are so excited! We have had a "housewarming gift" wrapped up since December when WH was pushing for us to have the keys 12/20. It has just been collecting dust in our current living room... They can't wait to have their own bedrooms and open this present.

We can't wait for a lifetime of memories in our new home.

Nope.

No plumber or painter or carpenter yesterday. The field manager was there taking care of some things, however. He installed our new kitchen counter top and sink since the first was busted. Then as he was anchoring our island counter down he used the wrong size screw and popped through our counter. That's supposed to be in next week. He was pretty mad at himself.

In the bathroom, they ordered the wrong side splashes and the wrong end caps. Again.

We are missing our third column on our front porch and the deadbolt on our basement. Hopefully the carpenters will take care of this tomorrow.

The windows and garage door panel are to be in next week. We are really tired of hearing about how Anderson Silverline's service is "so poor". Our windows have been broken SINCE NOVEMBER 12TH and they "haven't come in yet." Really? If their service is so poor, why would Wayne Homes stand behind them and sell them? One would think poor customer service would be a driving factor in change. Maybe a move to Anderson 200s like their competitors next door should be considered because this so-called "poor service" ends up reflecting poorly on Wayne Homes' reputation. Frankly, it's ridiculous. The current scenario we are in was my husband's biggest concern when dealing with our bank and releasing draws - we are looking at a near-finished house, high utility bills, and still facing broken windows and a list of "little issues" that need addressed.

In other news, the cleaning lady is supposed to be here Friday or Saturday. That's exciting! The field manager would like to close Tuesday, but given that all if the items won't be done until Wednesday, we will possibly close then. Who knows, though...it feels as if the last 45 days have been a guessing game that have taken forever.

In theory....

According to our FM, many of the crews needed to fix our extensive list of "little things" will be at our home today.

  • The carpenters:
    • Install our kitchen countertop that is broken
    • Install our third porch column that has been missing for a few months
    • Fix the sidesplashes in the bathroom (the wrong ones were ordered)
    • Install a deadbolt in the basement
    • Work on waterproofing the walkout. They did some of this yesterday.
  • The plumbers:
    • Install the kitchen sink, faucet, and garbage disposal since they couldn't install it in a broken counter
  • The painters:
    • Fix the dings, scratches, and dents in the walls, doors, and trim
      • We went around the house with post-it notes to mark the areas that need attention. Our neighbors even helped!
    • Paint a few pieces of newly-installed trim, including shoe moulding
    • Caulk

IF this condensed list (the real list is longer) is addressed today, the "cleaning lady" may be here Thursday or Friday and maybe........just maybe, we will have keys.

The catch? We would sign contingent on the rough grade, two broken windows, and dented garage panel.

Crossing our fingers!

That good news...

Even though we didn't think anyone would be here today given that it's currently -13 degrees, both the carpenters and the field manager were here bright and early at 8 this morning. That's good news we weren't expecting and it should help us tie up several loose ends in hopes of possibly closing Friday.

The last few weeks...

Things have been crazy around here and we are crossing our fingers for good news... maybe we will make it by the end of the week if people show up. Mother nature isn't cooperating, however, so we will see.

Plumbers

The plumbers came yesterday and our FM mudded our cracking island drywall. The carpenters are supposed to be here today to tie up loose ends. We may be closing next Friday with some contingencies for WH to finish.

We are floored!

We officially have hard floors and carpet!! Let the fun begin! We will post about the "little stuff" this weekend in hopes Thursday and Friday are promising. We are getting closer and it has been a HUGE week and weekend at our forever home!
One of the bedrooms
From office to foyer
Making carpet angels in his bedroom... And planning this, that, and everything else. :)
From foyer to great room
Look at these manners! Impressive responsibility from this crew. We are thankful! They were out of Perrysburg and were very kind.

Fluffy digression: We have been impressed by many of the WH crews when we have gone out to visit and our children have asked them a hundred questions, made them bracelets, or baked them cookies, etcetera. The only crews our boys got to "hang out with" were the crews that worked really late (it's about 8 pm and the carpet crew just left), so I can imagine hanging out with little ones that aren't theirs doesn't rank high on their priority list....but we love that never once did they give our kids the cold shoulder and always took time out of their day to explain what they were doing (in ways a five-year-old can understand).

Half plumbed

The plumbers were here to install toilets, sinks and our water heater.
Our hybrid water heater. Energy savings, please!?
Waterlines. I know, so interesting... But so important!
White shoe molding? No thanks.
Dual sinks in master
The main bathroom. I am sure it will be baptized with blue toothpaste on the first night!

Hard floors / water

The plumber comes tomorrow for sinks and toilets! Hopefully the capenter comes with the countertop replacement so the plumber can install our garbage disposal and faucet too.

Carpet is supposed to be in by Thursday / Friday. We are getting so close... Hopefully our "fix-it" lists get addressed and we don't have to heat an empty home much longer.

It looks amazing!

Lights & fans

Update after FM meeting - day 120 something

We met with our FM yesterday and got a little bit of an update. He pointed out that our countertop was actually busted and he had already ordered a new one. We missed that! We are thankful we won't have to wait on that (hopefully).

Hard flooring is scheduled to be installed this weekend, but that's only if the guy shows up (says FM). We are the first house on their list.

The plumber is supposed to be here Tuesday if flooring is done.

The carpet is supposed to be installed Wednesday/Thursday if they show up (says fm - see a theme?)

Paint touch ups Friday if carpet is done.

No date was given for keys. :)

The electrician and FM are there today fixing odds and ends. We are getting there!

Meeting with the FM - Day 120 something :)

Tonight, we are meeting with the Field Manager to go over our list of concerns. We plan on showing him the island and discussing reinforcing the floor since there is so much movement. We hope to have a better estimate of our time frame after this meeting.

Our fans w/downrods were installed and most of the electric was fixed. :) They still have to come back for some things tomorrow, but that's fine. We are happy they took care of things.

1st date: December 20
2nd date: January 10
3rd date: January 17
4th date: "maybe January 20"
4th date: ??

Crossing our fingers for a good day!

Hellooooo? - Day 123

Not sure anyone was there today. We were hoping for floor prep or something, but no.

Electric issues addressed - Day 124

Husband took a half day off of work to make sure electricians were aware of all of our issues, many of which they were. Electricians will be back Thursday for the final electric. Our site foreman is back from vacation today and my husband has an entire page of issues that need addressed, so I am not sure this is the best "welcome back." He will understand, though. He's pretty good. We are supposed to be in Friday and we are pretty sure that's impossible.

Lights on, Paint's Dry, Basement's wet AGAIN - Day 122

We have lights! (Most of them anyway) What a difference this makes for the house and the paint colors! The "greige" looks much better in the light than without it. We were regretting that color until the lights were in. Now, we love it.

Dining room and standard light

Kitchen, dining room, foyer and office. All standard lights.. plus my black doors. We like these so much more than we anticipated! Let's hope the flooring crews don't damage them!

The start of our rope lighting

A few tears are in this mess. It was an overwhelming day for us because our electiricians "fix it" list is huge, the flooring around our island needs braced because the island moves A LOT and actually bounces if you walk to hard or my kids run, and then we walk down to this. Again.

You can see the dirt still piled by the door. We added money in our PPIs for a concrete pad out there.... clearly you can see how that worked out. Thanks for the poor location of the dirt hill, WH Excavators.

So. Annoying.

We already took one credit for cleaning but we are asking for another since we spent this whole weekend cleaning up mud and water. AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

Why not see something that's a potential problem and fix it to keep others from wasting their time and money? My repeating theme in this blog is PROACTIVE VS. REACTIVE.........

We were supposed to be in this Friday, but I'm not sure that's going to happen. At all.
