Painting & Electric - Day 115

After a few lengthy and somewhat heated discussions about painting and paint type with our painter this morning, I think we have everything ready to go for paint on the doors and walls today!

The electricians are coming back to work today and hopefully things will be moving along!

Update: The paint guy "stood by his word" and made things right after a rough start this morning. I don't feel comfortable posting details, but suffice it to say it looks amazing.

The painters will be working today and said they still need to come back Monday. We are supposed to get 8-12 inches of snow Sunday and have crazy temperatures, so hopefully we don't get too backed up. Hard floors are supposed to be installed next week. 

The electricians must not be coming back until next week.

A long day for the carpenters! - Day 100

No pictures today, but the carpenters worked until about 10:45 or 11:00 pm today! We actually went to bed before they left. Our eight-year-old had a politeness meal for scouts, so he took them out some Christmas cookies and had a quick chat. This makes us super happy because he is normally so shy, but the different crews being here have helped him branch out. Most all of them were very nice and down to earth! :)

Lots of progress was made today... Lots of small mistakes too. All of the trim, jamb, case, doors, cabinets, granite kitchen sink, counters, and wood 1/2 capped walls are done. 2/3 of the beautiful craftsman columns are installed. It looks like a home and it is very evident that a lot of time was spent at our house the last few days. We are loving the progress.

There are a few mistakes our FM is addressing. They include: 

1. Re-building one area of the island because it wasn't long enough

2. Ordering the last porch column. Oops! 

3. Ordering new side splashes - they ordered the reversed side splash on accident

4. Ordering the lightrail molding in our kitchen

5. Fixing the main bath door

6. Removing and reinstalling the correct color of Shake siding

These seem like a lot, but building a house is complicated! This won't affect us much in the big picture, so we aren't stressing. Our site foreman seems like he's on top of the mistakes too, as he pointed some of them out to us. 

Today could be the day our fireplace stone is installed and our shake siding is fixed. I am not sure what else to expect so it will be my Christmas surprise when I get home! :) Happy Friday!

The Amish siding crews are here and working hard! They were from Millersburg and were incredibly kind and hardworking. My hubby said they were even speaking German on the phone. It is so cold out here and they are working like crazy still (it is 4:45 pm). Tomorrow they should be finished. I cannot believe how much the house has changed in a few short weeks!

This was one of my favorite days to come  home and pull in our driveway! 

Our countertops got delivered and we love them!! 

Doors are here - our painter wasn't too happy he would have to move these, but oh well.

The excavators were here working on the electric line. That was quite a feat in all of this snow! 

The painter didn't make it to prime but will be here tomorrow. 

This is going to be a HUGE week for our build! What a great Christmas gift for our family even if we aren't "technically" living there.

Utility trenching - day 94

They trenched and filled our electric line today while the drywallers worked. The siding crew didn't show up today like they were supposed to. Even with that, Here is to some good progress!

Details - Day 84

Our progress has been amazing. Just not perfect, which we would not expect anyway. We noticed some odd things yesterday we will be addressing with our site foreman tomorrow.

What is this? The rest of the dining room header is the same... Until this weird spot that sticks out like a sore thumb. This is an easy fix. 

This is the photo our home consultant attached to our plans and had us sign. The columns stick out a little bit. I will need to take a photo of our columns as they sit now, but they are flush with the angled wall and will need to be fixed for the crown molding to be placed at the top. Not the biggest deal, but we don't want any delays!  

Hopefully drywallers will start finishing today, the stone will be done, and our attic / garage insulation will be blown. That's a lot for one day. 

We are getting ready to schedule our garage door opener installation and it is much more expensive than we thought. We have double doors and would like a keypad, so our situation may be a little different than other customers... But still. Luckily we put this in our PPIs, but we may still be a little over the allowed amount. We are ready to park in the garage again since our current garage is filling up with furniture for the new house. :) 

After hubby talks to our foreman, we should have a solid timeline of expectations as we reach the final stretch. It has been fun, but we are looking forward to enjoying our home after all of the budgeting, researching, planning, re-planning, working, discussing, stressing, emails, phone calls, text messages, scheduling, etcetera. Our kids need it more than we do. <3

Cutting concrete, insulation and mystery HVAC - Day 74

Today, our concrete buddies came and cut the concrete.

Our oldest "delivered" their bracelets and they donated $5 to him, which made him incredibly excited. One if the workers' brought their 7th grade son and they played football in our yard. It was awesome. We felt very lucky that WH hires THIS type of contractor to do work for them. 

Friday they must have started the install on our electric furnace. We missed that! 

This was a very nice surprise for us. That made for an ultra-productive week with Wayne Homrs - even though we were losing our marbles every night with stress. I think the fireplace is getting figured out (not Wayne Homes), so things should be looking up.

Insulation is done until the drywall is in and then they will blow insulation in the ceilings.  

Drywall is supposed to be delivered Monday and started next week. I believe siding will be started next week as well. We are happy for progress and for our delays to hopefully be kept to a minimum from now until our anticipated 12/20 move-in date.

Finally - Day 73

Wayne Homes delivered today. :) Framers     Showed up and finally fixed the Greek return.

I should have tried to take a picture at the same angle for a better comparison. The top is the new return over the garage. The bottom is the old.

Our French doors were installed for our basement walkout! Woo hoo! 

Our basement floor is nearly finished and our "landing" at the bottom is done. This will be a lot better for us and the boys. They are already planning car races, skating, and football in the basement. We are envisioning quiet evenings and clean living areas. :) 

They are 90% done with insulation. 

Tomorrow (Saturday), the manager from Carter Lumber insulation will be coming back with a scaffolding small enough to fit in the boys' bedrooms so he can finish the insulation. The concrete guys will be back in the morning to cut the garage floor, basement floor, and porch (maybe?). Most importantly, though, they will be back to pick up their loom bracelet and hear about our eight year old's rain gutter regatta performance. :) 

We are thankful for this progress, especially before the upcoming shortened holiday work week.

They came today and put in our vents and cold air returns. They also set our master shower, main tub, and did a few other jobs around the house.

We meet with the electrician tomorrow for our walk through. We are really hoping  they shingle the roof today and tomorrow because it will be 60 this weekend which means the shingles will seal well!

Our window in the master bath was broken. They ordered one right away. The crew that put in the windows was awesome - just two guys - but they were personable and very kind. We are happy this is done! 

Nothing - Day 52

Our framers won't be here with a crane until Tuesday or Wednesday to start the roof because they are in Michigan fixing damage from the storm. We are lucky that it doesn't look like we got much damage, if any. It does concern us that our house will be open to the elements for so long, but it did dry out considerably today.

 Our project manager told us he thinks we will be done with the house by Mid-December. Our 110 day guarantee date has us in by Mid-March (but this is not in writing anywhere yet that we know of). These dates are a little odd to us, but hopefully our project manager is right. We have really enjoyed working with him and everyone at Wayne Homes. So far, the work looks good and we/our neighbors have been impressed at the quality of their work, their materials, and the overall outcomes. At this moment, we just wish their schedules were a little more consistent and they had enough crews to make that happen. We have had about as many days of no work as we have had days of work... And two half-Saturdays that our kids absolutely adored. We remain positive and hopeful that we made the right decision to choose Wayne Homes despite these factors. When the crews are here, they get A LOT done in a little amount of time! Here's to hoping we can spend Christmas in our new house!
